Malayalam actor Captain Raju, well known for his character and villain roles in Malayalam cinema, is no more. The veteran actor breathed his last this morning at his residence in Kochi. The actor was 68 years old.
Captain Raju was born in the year 1950 at a place called Omallur in Pathanamthitta district. He made his entry to the film industry with the Malayalam movie Raktham, which had hit the theatres in the year 1981. He went on to become one of the most renowned character actors in Malayalam cinema. In the Mammootty starrer Aavanazhi, he essayed the role of the villain character named Sathyaraj, which fetched him a lot of laurels. In the movie August 1, starring Mammootty in the lead role, Captain Raju essayed the role of the main antagonist and it is considered as one of the finest villain characters in Malayalam cinema. In the Mohanlal starrer Nadodikkattu, Captain Raju essayed the role of a killer named Pavanazhi, which had a touch of humour in it. The character Pavanazhi too turned out to be hugely popular. Other popular films of Captain Raju include Samrajyam, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, Puthukkotayile Puthumanavalan, etc. Apart from Malayalam movies, he has appeared in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi movies as well. He turned a director with the Malayalam movie Itha Oru Sneha Gadha, which featured Vikram in the lead role.
